2003 MEDFA Conference

Organised by Tax Free World Association and the Middle East Duty Free Association, the 2003 Middle East Duty Free Conference took place at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai on 3-4 December. The event, under the management of TFWA and with the participation of Moodie International, gave operators, retailers and suppliers the chance to focus on how travel retail is faring in a region recently torn by conflict. It was followed by the Dubai Duty Free Golf Tournament on 5 and 6 December.

The two-day conference, which has proven such a success in its first two years, highlighted the post-war recovery of business and travel in the region; and identified areas which are enjoying growth and others which are emerging as new markets of opportunity. In what was a highly topical and stimulating keynote address, Gulf Air's chief executive provided his insight to the lessons that the industry must learn from crisis. Delegates were encouraged to contribute their views to the discussion.

The region's leading operators were all present at this conference- including Dubai Duty Free, Dufry, Aer Rianta Int'l, Abu Dhabi Duty Free, Hamila Duty Free, IDFTA, Skysales-as were key sponsors such as P&G, Ferrero, Nestle, Masterfoods, Kraft, ARY Group, and Gulf Air and leading media such as The Travel Retail Business, DFNI, Travel Retailer International, Frontier, Moodie International, Travel Retail Markets Middle East and Gulf Africa Duty Free.
