HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum is the younger brother of the late ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. For nearly two decades, Sheikh Ahmed has stood at the helm of organizations that continually set new standards in global travel and tourism. He has been Chairman of Emirates Airlines since its inception in 1985 and President of Dubai’s Dept. of Civil Aviation, which oversees Dubai Int’l Airport, Dubai Duty Free, Dubai Cargo Village, Dubai International Hotel and Dubai Aviation Club.

Mohamed Mounib

Managing Director, Abu Dhabi Duty Free / MEDFA President

Mr. Mounib's distinguished career in travel and tourism began in 1972 at Hilton International where he held various management roles until 1982 when he joined Abu Dhabi National Hotels to manage its catering division. In 1984 he was appointed to oversee Abu Dhabi International Airport Duty Free and In-Flight Catering. Today he serves as Managing Director of these operations as well as for those at Al Ain International Airport, and additionally acts as Commercial Development and Marketing Director for the Dept. of Civil Aviation.

Erik Juul-Mortensen

President, Tax Free World Association

and President, V&S Global Duty Free & Travel Retail

Mr. Juul-Mortensen is a founding member of TFWA and has served as its President since September 1999. He joined Danish Distillers in 1987 as Vice-President of its export and duty free division. When Danish Distillers was acquired by V&S Group, Stockholm, in 1999, he was appointed Senior Vice President and Commercial Director of International Brands (now V&S Absolut Spirits). He became President of the duty free and travel retail unit of V&S brands in October 2001.

Peter Harbison

Managing Director, Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation

Founder of the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation in 1990, Mr. Harbison is one of the region's most respected aviation strategists whose clients include airlines, airports, government agencies and start-up aviation businesses. His brief often includes privatisation and project management, passenger and freight supply chain analysis, regulatory review and feasibility, policy and strategy studies. Over the last 25 years, He has worked in the Australian Dept. of Aviation, ICAO and IATA. He chairs a regulatory reform group for IATA.

Adel Ali

CEO, Air Arabia Airline

Mr. Ali is credited with creating the Middle East's first low-cost airline, Air Arabia, which began flying in October 2003. He brought over 25 years of aviation, tourism and marketing experience to the start-up operation. He previously served as vice president commercial and customer services for Gulf Air, where he played a central role in the airline's recovery. He held senior management positions with British Airways, including General Manager Middle East and Africa. Mr. Ali also served as a director for Bahrain Airport Service and Bahrain Hotel Company. He was recognised within the industry as the Middle East airline expert and has received awards for his contribution to air transport and tourism in the Middle East and Africa.

Alan Burnett, OBE

Regional Director Africa, Middle East, Central and South Asia, British Airways

Mr. Burnett has worked extensively for British Airways in the Middle East, South East Asia and South Africa and today is the airline's Regional Director for Africa, Middle East, Central and South Asia. Additionally, he represents British Airways on the Board of Air Mauritius and is also a member of the Board of British Airways Holidays.

Abdul Wahab Teffaha

Secretary General, Arab Air Carriers Organisation

Mr. Teffaha was elected Secretary General of AACO in June 1996 after serving the organisation for many years in different positions. He played a key role in developing IATA's currency system for pricing airline tickets, its prorate system for revenue sharing amongst airlines and he participated in the team which developed IATA's strategy beyond 2000. Mr. Teffaha achieved better conditions for Arab carriers in 1991 through the first collective agreement between Galileo and eight Arab airlines. He successfully spearheaded a Regional Training Centre and new agreements with Galileo and Amadeus. He is a member of a UN regional think-tank for the role of economic development in furthering world peace and security.

Gerry Crawford

Regional Procurement & Logistics Manager, Aer Rianta International-Middle East

Having started his career in finance, Mr. Crawford has held senior travel retail management positions in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Mediterranean and Levant countries with the Aer Rianta International group of companies. He moved from the position of General Manager Beirut Duty Free to take up regional responsibility for procurement and logistics in June 2004.

Nadine Heubel

Travel Retail Director, Hugo Boss

Ms. Heubel was appointed Head of Travel Retail for Hugo Boss in 2002, after three years as Travel Retail Area Manager for Asia and the Middle East. She has built impressively on the fashion brand's solid foundations in travel retail and recently presided over one of the travel retail fashion sector's biggest launches in years-Boss Woman-at October's TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

Richard Talbot

President & Managing Director, Talbot Consultants International

Mr. Talbot has over 30 years of experience in retail, first with Army & Navy Stores and Liptons in England, later with the Bentall Group in Canada and now as President of his own firm. He has consulted for major projects such as downtown redevelopments, rapid transit stations, cruiseship terminals and railway stations. In 1989, he was retained as the retail and non-aeronautical revenues planner for Toronto Airport T3. His firm has conducted concession planning studies for LAX, LaGuardia, Istanbul, Dubai, Changi, Manila, Taipei and Brisbane airports.

Graeme Bradstock

Head of Middle East/Africa/Indian Sub-Continent, Lindt

Mr. Bradstock's career in the premium goods industry began with Marks & Spencer. Later at WPP in London he managed several fragrance accounts and then went on to work with Proctor & Gamble Cosmetics & Fragrances. For the last nine years he has overseen Middle East, African and Sub-Continent and Eastern Mediterranean markets for Lindt & Sprüngli.

David Freeborn

General Manager, Pernod Ricard Gulf

After 10 years in the UK working for L'Oreal, Mr. Freeborn moved to the Gulf in 1997 as Sales and Marketing Manager for UK Healthcare Co. He joined Seagram in 2000 and now heads up The Groupe Pernod Ricard Gulf operation. This business covers both duty free and domestic trade channels within the Gulf as well as Sri Lanka and The Maldives.

Salim Mohammed

Area Manager - Duty Free, Middle East & Asia South Region, Philip Morris Services

Mr. Mohammed joined Philip Morris as Duty Free Manager for UAE and Oman in 1989 from Weitnauer Tuxedo in Sharjah where he had served as Deputy General Manager since 1986. In 1992 he took charge of all GCC markets and in 1995 took on the Levant markets as well. During his tenure PM's market share has grown from 17% to +50% across the region.

Jean-Guillaume Trouvin

Managing Director Near and Middle East, Chanel

Mr. Trouvin joined the leading French beauty house Chanel direct from high school in 1992, based first in Switzerland. He later assumed senior marketing and commercial roles in Spain before creating Chanel's subsidiary in Portugal. In 2000 he joined Chanel Dubai and in 2001 assumed his current role, handling both duty free and domestic markets.

Anthony Chalhoub

Vice President & CEO, Chalhoub Group

The Chalhoub family was among the pioneers of select distribution and retail in the GCC. Having been raised in the business, Mr. Chalhoub in 1975 started his retail/wholesale business on a small scale, with 25 staff members. Today that business stretches across North African, Near Eastern and GCC markets boasting wholesale and retail distribution of many of the world's most coveted luxury brands. The Chalhoub Group employees some 2,650 staff.

Duncan Alexander

After leaving the British Army with the rank of Captain, Mr. Alexander held various positions in the travel industry. He has held senior positions with Galileo International and SITA, and worked as an industry consultant with Logica and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Arjun Mittal

Mr. Mittal joined American Express five years ago from Temple-Smith Hilliard. For the first 3 years at Amex, he was a Senior Economist. During that time, he conducted over 40 TV interviews with CNN, BBC, Reuters, Bloomberg and CNBC. For the last two years he has been with American Express's Private Bank, helping clients make sense of financial markets and asset allocation.

Dr Mark Venables runs his own retail consulting business based at Dubai Internet City in the United Arab Emirates.  The core of the business is advising on retail dynamics, covering the design and layout of retail space, customer behaviour and shopping psychology, and specialist analysis of retail data.  Dr Venables specialises in the analysis of retail data and the evaluation of customer behaviour, psychology and motivation.  His practical experience in these fields was gained during 15 years (to 2001) with the British Supermarket company, J Sainsbury.
