The man who led Spain economically and culturally back to the forefront of Europe enlightened TFWA World Exhibition delegates with his views on the global economy, the expansion of Europe, terrorism and their ramifications for the prospects of travel retail trading. What key factors will drive currency fluctuations?

What is the EC doing to stem the proliferation of imitation luxury goods? Where does the EC currently stand on regulating the sales of tobacco, alcohol and confectionery?

How will international security efforts affect airports, travel and consumer confidence?

Airline Workshop

TFWA was pleased to host with Fernand Lang of Lemontrade the annual Airline workshop.

Brian Geary, Head of Transportation and Entertainment for Visa, shared data on global inflight purchasing and present partnership ideas which Visa uses with retailers in domestic channels which could help promote inflight sales. Geary shared future technology Visa was developing which could impact on sales levels.

Following the formal presentation there was time for delegates to engage in lively debate on a number of current issues.

 

ETRC Tobacco Workshop

This year’s ETRC Workshop was held on Tuesday, 1 November in the Palais des Festivals (Audi I, level 4). The meeting updated delegates on the fight to maintain tobacco sales in duty free, the campaign to defend duty free tobacco allowances worldwide from the restrictions proposed by the World Health Council, plus other global issues that are affecting the trade.

Asia Pacific Breakfast & Workshop

A senior executive from ACNielsen Asia Pacific discussed a range of trends that are affecting the way Asia Pacific consumers spend and shop when they travel. Representatives from the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association and TFWA outlined progress in the development of the travel retail industry in Asia Pacific. The 2005 TFWA-ACNielsen Chinese Traveller Study was distributed as well as top findings from the recently completed 2005 TFWA Japanese Traveller Study.
