2006 Plenary session
“The State of the Travel Retail Industry”

TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen

The Asia-Pacific region has no shortfall of travellers. In fact, experts are adamant that the millions of travellers we see today will soon become billions of travellers, thanks to burgeoning outbound travel from China, India, Russia and the Middle East. Amidst the outstanding opportunities this creates for travel retail, what are the challenges?

Keynote: “When Asia Roars”

Rt Hon Mike Moore, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, former Director General of the World Trade Organisation

The eminent politician/economist addressed the impact of Asia on our world today, a subject he knows well after three years at the helm of the World Trade Organisation. Moore's term coincided with momentous changes in the global economy and multilateral trading system, including the successful accession to the WTO of China, Chinese Taipei and eight other countries. Moore’s keynote address examined China’s increasing role in Asia’s future and its importance to the fortunes of the travel retail industry.
