Sarah Branquinho

Sarah Branquinho

President ETRC & Business Relations & External Affairs Director, World Duty Free Group

Sarah Branquinho is an active campaigner on duty-free and travel retail industry issues. After gaining industry support for the first Tax Free World Exhibition she served as TFWA Commercial Director until 1996, when she was appointed Secretary General of the European Travel Research Foundation, managing the ambitious research projects which underpinned the lobby to save intra-EU duty free, and the EU-wide consumer mobilisation programme. 

Sarah subsequently joined BAA and its retail company World Duty Free, extending her remit to sister company Aldeasa following Autogrill’s acquisition of WDF.  

She is chairman of the UK Travel Retail Foundation and a member of the Supervisory and Managing Boards of ETRC, of which she became President in 2012.

Alan Brennan

Alan Brennan

Global Head of Sales, Nestlé International Travel Retail

Alan Brennan is an Irish national who has enjoyed a 360° career in global travel retail over the last 20 years. 

His career began with DFS Group in Europe within the Finance and Procurement departments, before he moved to a leading UK-based agency to head its Sales and Marketing Department, managing a small but dynamic team in the core product categories of Beauty, Liquor and Confectionery. In 1999 he joined Nestlé’s Travel Retail business unit Nestlé ITR (NITR) as Regional Business Manager for UK and Ireland and parts of Europe. He relocated to Dubai in 2001 to set up a regional office, developing NITR’s business in the Middle East/Africa and South Asia regions, finding time to graduate with an MBA at Leicester University in the UK.

Alan returned to Switzerland in 2009 to drive NITR’s global category strategy with the development of its acclaimed category management tool Perfect Store™. In late 2013 he took up the position of Global Head of Sales, leading a global team, encompassing the key operational and strategic functions of NITR. 

Alan currently lives in his adopted country of Switzerland, in Vevey on Lake Geneva. Married with two children, he is a keen sports person: from golf to paddle boarding and occasionally he has been known to catch one or two waves surfing… although his ability to catch the waves are decreasing with age.

Ivo Favotto

Ivo Favotto

General Manager, LS travel retail Pacific

With 26 years of experience in the airport and travel retail industries, Ivo Favotto is one of the most experienced executives working in the travel retail industry today. His experience crosses all aspects of airport and travel retail, from airport management, master planning and airport privatisation to retail design, benchmarks and operations.

Prior to joining LS travel retail, Ivo was Duty Free Director for Sydney Airport with The Nuance Group Australia. Ivo also spent four years in Zurich as the company’s Global Senior Vice President for Strategy and Business Development. Today, as the General Manager of LS travel retail’s duty free operations in the Pacific, Ivo’s goal is to position the company as a leading duty free operator in the Australian and Pacific market.

Working with LS travel retail during 2012, Ivo led a team that successfully acquired the Duty Free Stores Wellington Ltd business. In February this year, LS travel retail was awarded the duty free concession in Auckland Airport, signalling a new chapter for the retailer as it looks to expand its duty free network across the Pacific.

Ivo has also bought many new luxury brands to the Pacific travel retail market in the last two years, including Victoria’s Secret Beauty & Accessories, Eye Love and a brand new concept to the LS travel retail group, AMUSE Beauty Studio, opening initially in Sydney T2, T3 and Melbourne T4.

Nicole Foo

Nicole Foo

Assistant Vice President, Advertising & Promotions (Airside Concessions), Changi Airport Group

Nicole Foo was appointed to head up Changi Airport Group’s Advertising & Promotions unit in July 2010. In this capacity she is responsible for advertising management at Changi Airport, and oversees commercial marketing for the airside concessions.

Nicole began her career with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) in 2004 in retail leasing and advertising management, before she took on a 3-year stint in Airport Operations from 2007 to 2009. During this period she led the Budget Terminal expansion project in 2007/2008, and supported the operationalization of Terminal 3 in January 2009. She is currently involved in the commercial planning for Terminal 4. Her 10-year stint with the CAAS and CAG has covered airport operations, retail leasing and operations, advertising management, events and commercial marketing.

Prior to her career at Changi, Nicole gained experience in both US-MNC and the local F&B industry. 

Nicole graduated with a Bachelor of Business Studies (Second Upper Honours) from the Nanyang Technological University.

Stéphane Garelli is a Professor at both the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), one of the world's leading business schools, and at the University of Lausanne. He is also the director of IMD's World Competitiveness Center and is an authority on World Competitiveness: his research focuses particularly on how nations and enterprises compete on International markets.

He publishes the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook - the most comprehensive and reputed study in the field of the competitiveness of nations. This yearly report compares the competitiveness of forty-six nations using more than 300 criteria. 

Stéphane is widely considered to be one of the top lecturers on economic and business matters. He has a unique ability to analyze and describe the world economic environment as it evolves, and to draw conclusions about what changes in the world economy actually mean for companies and individuals alike. 

He is closely connected to the world of business, and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Le Temps, the leading French-language Swiss newspaper. He was formerly Chairman of the Board of the Sandoz Financial and Banking Holding, and member of the board of the Banque Edouard Constant. The author of numerous publications in the field of competitiveness, international trade and investments, he is also a columnist in several magazines. For twelve years he was permanent senior adviser to the European management of Hewlett-Packard, and before that Managing Director of the World Economic Forum and of the Davos Symposium for many years. He is a member of a number of institutes including China Enterprise Management Association, Board of the Fondation Jean Monnet pour l'Europe, The Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences, and the Mexican Council for Competitiveness.

Stéphane was a member of the Constitutional Assembly of his local canton of Vaud from 1999 to 2002.

David Goh

David Goh

Secretary General, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Asia

David Goh has over 30 years of international experience in the meetings and hospitality industry, holding leadership positions at leading destination and association management companies and consultancies. He has worked with several leading cruise line brands, playing a number of key roles in Business Development, Product Development and Operations for MICE and Passenger Cruise portfolios.

David established MCI’s first Asia Pacific Office in Singapore as Managing Director, with the responsibility of building the Association Management & Consultancy practice as well as expanding MCI’s presence in Meetings & Events, Professional Conference and Destination Management in the Asia Pacific region. 

David currently serves as Secretary General for CLIA Asia. Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is the unified voice and leading authority of the global cruise community, supporting policies and practices that foster a safe, secure, healthy and sustainable cruise ship environment and promoting the cruise travel experience. Members consist of the world’s most prestigious ocean, river and speciality cruise lines; a highly trained and certified travel agent community; and other cruise industry partners, including ports, destinations, ship developers, suppliers, business services and travel operators.

David Goubert

David Goubert

Senior Vice President, Luxury Cruise Retail & Asia Office, Starboard Cruise Services, Inc. 

An accomplished business executive, David Goubert joined Starboard Cruise Services in January 2015 as Senior Vice President of Luxury Cruise Retail and Asia Office. He previously enjoyed a progressive 15-year career with Louis Vuitton Americas in various leadership capacities, such as managing leather goods subcontractors in Europe, leading the leather goods factory in California and spearheading Louis Vuitton Global Supply Chain Worldwide. He later led the Southern US, Caribbean and Latin American Region for Louis Vuitton.  

Prior to joining Louis Vuitton, David was a Consultant for Bossard Consultants and held several production and logistics management roles with Nestlé. He is a Civil Engineering graduate from the Ecole des Mines in France, and resides in Miami with his wife and their three children.

Erik Juul-Mortensen

President, Tax Free World Association

A founding member of TFWA and a member of its Management Committee since the inception of the Association, Erik Juul-Mortensen served as Vice President from 1986 to 1997, before being elected President in September 1999.

From 1987 to 1991 Erik was Vice President at Danish Distillers Ltd, in charge of the export and duty free division. In 1991 his promotion to Senior Vice President and Export Director followed, and in 1996 he was named Senior Vice President and International Director.

Following the acquisition of Danish Distillers by Stockholm-based V&S Group in December 1999, Erik transferred to V&S International Brands as Senior Vice President and Commercial Director. In 2003 he was promoted to President of V&S Absolut Global Duty Free, with responsibility for the entire V&S portfolio in the global duty free market. In the same period he also served as Managing Director of V&S Deutschland, the German domestic market subsidiary of V&S Group. From 2005 to 2010 Erik served as President of Maxxium Global Travel Retail, a highly successful division of Maxxium Worldwide which was a joint venture between V&S Group, Remy-Cointreau, The Edrington Group and Beam Global Spirits & Wine. 

In addition to his responsibilities at TFWA, Erik is also Treasurer of the Duty Free World Council, a member of the Supervisory and Managing Boards of the European Travel Retail Confederation and a board member of the Middle East & Africa Duty Free Association and the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association.

Liew Mun Leong

Liew Mun Leong

Founding President & CEO, CapitaLand Group

Liew Mun Leong has spent 22 years in public service in Singapore, developing Changi Airport, military airports and establishments. He was also the CEO of two government statutory bodies, the Singapore Institute of Standards and Industrial Research (SISIR) and the National Science and Technology Board (NSTB), the forerunner of A*STAR. He was the Registrar of the Professional Engineers Board, granting engineers’ licenses to practise in Singapore and regulating engineering practices in the country. He has also served on the Executive Board of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for which he was later elected President for one term.

In the private sector, he has 22 years of experience leading 10 public listed companies in four countries. In 2000 he was appointed founding CEO of CapitaLand Limited, a public listed real estate company, which under his watch, has become the largest real estate group by market capitalization in South East Asia, operating in over 20 countries with more than 12,000 staff. He currently chairs Changi Airport Group and Surbana International Consultants Holdings Pte Ltd, also sitting on the boards of Singapore Exchange, CapitaLand Hope Foundation (the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand), NUS Business School, Human Capital Leadership Institute, Chinese Development Assistance Council and the Singapore China Foundation. 

In 2013 Mr Liew was appointed Provost's Chair Professor (Practice) (pro bono) in NUS Business School and Faculty of Engineering.

Jack MacGowan

Jack MacGowan

Chief Executive Officer, Aer Rianta International

Jack MacGowan was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Aer Rianta International in August 2011, having previously held the role of Chief Commercial Officer at airport authority DAA, with responsibility for all commercial operations in Ireland including retail, car parks, marketing and property concessions. Prior to joining DAA in 2005, Jack worked with Tesco, first as Head of Marketing for Tesco Ireland and later as Non-Food Marketing Director in the UK. 

An engineer by profession, Jack’s other career roles include marketing and general management positions at Diageo in the UK, USA, Russia and Greece and a period in the London office of business consultants, McKinsey & Company. He holds an MBA from Wharton University.

Trevor Moore

With over 30 years’ experience in travel retail, Trevor Moore has worked in every retail sector of the industry, holding senior roles at companies including Allders International, The Nuance Group, Harding Bros Retail and currently Kai Tak Cruise Plaza (KTCP) in Hong Kong. During his time with cruise retailer Harding Bros, Trevor witnessed the industry’s early drive into the Asia Pacific market.

Building upon his experience in the cruise retail market, Trevor moved to KTCP in 2013 and is leading the retail development of the iconic Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong, which opened in October 2014. He describes the project as “one of the most exciting, challenging and ground-breaking I have ever been involved in”.

Peter Mohn

Peter Mohn

Dr Peter Mohn graduated as a psychologist and earned a PhD in Business Psychology at the University of Göttingen, Germany. Peter is of Norwegian origin but has lived in Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands, Finland, UK and Germany, finally settling in Switzerland in 2002. He has worked for various leading global market research agencies since 1993 and has specialised in travel retail research since 2004. The company he helped establish, m1nd-set, works as a consultant to several leading brands as well as shop operators in duty free & travel retail.

Based near Lake Geneva, m1nd-set conducts consumer research at airports, at border shops and on board ferries and cruiselines in over 60 markets worldwide for global travel retail brands as well as operators and landlords. The company conducts quantitative and qualitative research on many different themes, such as shopping motivation & behaviour in travel retail, mystery shopping, brand awareness and evaluation, price elasticity, the effectiveness of promotions, shopper perceptions, travel retail exclusive product testing, segmentation surveys and many more.

Sang J. Ahn

Sang J. Ahn

Vice President – Commercial, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL)

Sang J. Ahn is Chief Commercial Officer of Bangalore International Airport Limited, operator of the gateway to South India. His team manages and operates all the concession businesses of Bangalore International, India’s first airport to be run as a public-private partnership. BIAL was recently recognized as one of the best regional airports; international traffic now stands at 15 million and has shown average annual growth of 20% in recent years.  

Ahn’s team at BIAL is responsible for all duty free and duty paid retail, F&B, advertising, business lounges and landside transportation. Some of the concession shops and brands at Bangalore have become the top-selling outlets of their kind in India, not only in airport retail. 

From 2015, Ahn and his team are conducting a major refurbishment and refocusing of the airport’s concession areas as part of a cross-the-board campaign, ‘Story from South’, to provide an enhanced shopping experience for passengers and a new model of partnership with concessionaires.

Previously, Ahn served as Director of Concessions at Incheon Airport in South Korea, playing a leading role in helping the airport become the first to reach US$2 billion in airport retail sales in 2014. He strongly believes that a holistic approach to the passenger experience will enrich the airport’s position as a shopping destination – a concept that drives his new mission in one of airport retail’s key emerging markets of India.

Jaya Singh

Jaya Singh

Regional Director (Middle East, India Sub Continent, Asia Pacific and Oceania World Travel Retail) Mondelez International and President, Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association

A passionate believer in the potential of the global travel retail business, Jaya Singh is currently the Region Director for the Middle East, Indian Sub-Continent, Asia Pacific and Oceania World Travel Retail business at leading confectionery company Mondelez International. Since 2013 he has served as the President for the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA). 

Jaya has experience in almost every region of the world, in both domestic and travel retail environments. He previously served as Global Sales Director for Kraft Foods World Travel Retail business, as it was formerly known, and was also the Director for the Kraft Foods European Export business. 

Prior to this Jaya ran his own business which focused on training and personal development. He is a firm believer that the potential success of any organization and the realization of opportunities lies in identifying, developing and unleashing the potential of people in the commercial environments in which they operate. Carrying this credo from business to other domains, Jaya does a lot of private work in his spare time helping people identify, release and realize their own potential.

Oliver Segovia

Oliver Segovia

Founder & CEO, AVA Online Group

Oliver Segovia is the Founder & CEO of AVA Online Group, an e-commerce company in Southeast Asia, and a Director of the Segovia Group, a 40-year old family investment group with interests in real estate, hospitality and technology. 

AVA is an online retail platform for design brands, including its own in-house proprietary brand sold direct-to-consumer. AVA is backed by Kickstart Ventures, Hatchd Digital, and the Segovia Group.

For four years, Oliver was based in Singapore where he worked with Procter & Gamble Asia in a regional marketing strategy role. 

In 2005, he won the World Bank International Essay Competition in Amsterdam, where he presented a paper on a social venture that provided free debate education in the Philippines. Oliver was the founding editor of the Ateneo Student Business Review in 2004. 

Oliver holds an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School and co-authored "Passion & Purpose", published by Harvard Business Review Press. The book was positively reviewed by the Financial Times and the Washington Post, among others, and was selected to the 2012 JP Morgan Summer Reading List. 

He sits on the boards of the two non-profits: the Rotary Club of Makati and the HBS Club of the Philippines.

Andrew Y. WU

Group President, Greater China, LVMH

Andrew Wu is a leading authority on Asian consumer trends and the rise of luxury brands in China, as well as a leading industry professional in high-end brands’ retail distribution development.  Born and raised in Shanghai but having lived in Canada for over a decade, he took the decision to return to Mainland China in 1993, where for the next seven years he was General Manager and Managing Director of Parfums Christian Dior operations for LVMH in China. In 2000, he started a five-year period with Sony Music Entertainment Group, still based mostly in China, after which he re-joined LVMH as the Group head for China. In this role since 2005, he has overseen the rapidly growing and evolving businesses of 60-plus world-renowned brands under LVMH in the Chinese marketplace.

Yong Sun

Deputy General Manager, Haikou Meilan Airport Duty Free Shop

As a key member of the management team at Haikou Meilan Airport Duty Free Shop in Hainan Island, China, Yong Sun has wide managerial experience in innovative company management, procedural reform, operation management and market development. He played a key role in the establishment of the duty free operation at Haikou Meilan Airport, where sales have grown by 50% per year since opening.

Mr Sun is primarily responsible for marketing, operation and logistics management. At Haikou Meilan he has overseen a huge expansion in retail space, along with the opening of the largest watch store in airport duty free in Asia. He has also been instrumental in the development of Haikou Meilan’s online booking platform, successfully creating a duty free online sales channel.

Mr Sun’s previous experience includes executive roles at Hainan Mingsheng Shopping Mall Co. Ltd in Haikou, at the Training Department Director of Aviation and Tourism Vocational College in Sanya and at regional airline Hainan Airlines Co. Ltd. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics.
