Asia Pacific Breakfast Workshop

Over 200 exhibitors and buyers attended the TFWA Asia Pacific Breakfast Workshop on 20 October 2004 in Cannes. The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation presented an update on "Asia's Aviation Development", a new feeling of optimism being the main message.

The presentation looks at the rapid development of aviation as entry restrictions on trade are relaxed, the recovery of passenger traffic, the growing importance of regional airports pulling traffic away from main hubs, and the rapid emergence of low cost carriers (LCCs).

Finally, the presentation touches on the dramatic expansion of China, which has enjoyed a 600% increase in passenger traffic over the past five years, compared to the huge potential of India, which has lagged behind under beaurocracy.

TFWA CEO Andrew Ford summarised findings from the 2004 TFWA Asia Pacific Traveller Study. This presentation looks at the recovery of markets across the region and the recovery of travel retail sales as consumers release their pent up demand to travel and spend. Ford also discusses TFWA's own development in Asia Pacific, the opening of its Singapore office and the investment in research.

Sunil Tuli, Director Merchandise & Operations, King Power Group, and Joel Lafon, Travel Retail Director, Maxxium Global Duty Free Asia Pacific, summarised the development of the new Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association.
