The increase in disposable income, the fast economic growth and the rapid expansion of low cost airlines in India are just some of the many factors leading to the boom in outbound tourism in India. The impact on the duty free industry is inevitably significant. International expenditure by Indian travellers has increased by 19% year on year for the last seven years and shopping spending on international trips rose by a staggering 27% in 2007.

Indian Outbound Traveller Study (2006)

India is now the second fastest growing travel and tourism economy in the world. The number of Indian travellers going abroad crossed the 6 million mark to 6.20 milllions in 2004 and is only poised for more growth.

ACNielsen has been commissioned by TFWA to conduct research in 6 key cities across India to highlight the salient features of the Indian travellers' shopping behaviour.
