STATE OF THE INDUSTRY
Erik Juul-Mortensen, TFWA President

TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen will look at how the industry has been “challenging the future” in recent years and proffer his views on how all stakeholders can go a step further. From “premiumisation” to improving the consumer experience and taking into account new consumer trends and society issues, the President promises to challenge the industry to excel itself and reach new performance standards at all levels.

09.25 - 09.45
THE GLOBAL COUNTERFEIT CHALLENGE
Luc Chatel, French Minister for Industry & Consumer Affairs
& Bernard Brochand, Mayor of Cannes, Member of Parliament and President of the French national anti-counterfeit committee (CNAC).

The economic losses generated by the global counterfeiting business are valued at $700 billion annually. Travel retail is the most secure retail channel in the world and counterfeiting has never been, nor will it ever be a problem in our shops. Nevertheless, we suffer from lost sales just like other retail channels. Along with representatives of eleven countries, Minister Luc Chatel & Mayor Bernard Brochand will be launching a major intergovernmental initiative to combat counterfeiting in Cannes on Monday 27 October. TFWA, as a global trade association of premium brands, is proud to welcome the Minister and the Mayor to discuss this growing problem and how we can work together to combat its growth.

09.45 - 10.30
FORCE INDIA
Dr Vijay Mallya, Chairman, The UB Group

With India set to take the industry by storm over the next few years, Dr Mallya, who has been at the helm of the UB Group for the last 25 years, will stimulate, entertain and overwhelm delegates with his vision for India’s increasingly important role in the duty free and travel retail industry. In a market with such a sizeable travelling population, the potential for brands and retailers looking to invest in India is colossal.
Mallya will also talk about how the UB Group, owner of one the world’s largest drinks companies as well as India’s largest airline, is steaming ahead to set new benchmarks of excellence in all fields. Delegates will hear first-hand from the Indian tycoon how all industry stakeholders can “challenge the future”.

10.30 - 11.10
THE FOURTH DIMENSION
Hamish Taylor, Founder, The Skills Exchange

How can brands, retailers or landlords redefine their brand proposition by focussing on the benefits to the consumer rather than the product or service? There is a myriad of lessons to be learnt from brand experiences in other sectors where companies have innovated by challenging themselves to seek new benefits for consumers. Hamish Taylor will encourage delegates to look outside their immediate environment and address the issues and challenges they are facing by adopting a benefits-oriented as opposed to a product-oriented approach. He will illustrate how this process he has implemented with companies such as BAA, Eurostar, British Airways or Sainsbury’s Bank, can also help the duty free and travel retail industry to innovate and break out of the mould.

AIRLINE WORKSHOP
Hotel Majestic, Salon Croisette
Moderated by Doug Newhouse, Editor, The Travel Retail Business

Inflight future: redefining the benefits

Camilla Taylor, Inflight Sales & Logistics Manager at Cathay Pacific Airways, will discuss how the Cathay team has been pushing the boundaries on their inflight business concept. She will explain how the airline aims to differentiate its inflight sales offering from other airlines by making it a greater part of the passenger experience. Ms Taylor will also develop on Cathay’s strategies for targeting first and business class passengers and how the airline is increasingly using the internet both for marketing the inflight offer and pre-ordering.

Hamish Taylor of “The Skills Exchange” will provide a fourth dimensional perspective on the inflight duty free business, both analysing and redefining some of the challenges which airlines and inflight operators face and offering workable solutions to these challenges by drawing on comparisons from parallel industries.
Taylor will enable delegates to look at their business from a completely fresh dimension and enhance the benefits of inflight duty free in the eyes of the consumer.
