"The rise of luxury brands" - Christian Blanckaert

Conference, Morning session
Petit Bâteau chairman and former Hermés International vice president Christian Blanckaert presented a fascinating view of the development of the luxury business, from its origins in a small group of family companies to the open and strategic global market it is today.
Blanckaert drew lessons from the economic crisis and discussed the status and potential of key luxury markets in Asia. He explained that the recent economic crisis had shown some interesting elements of the luxury market, such as the stability of small luxury businesses, and that certain luxury categories weather bad conditions better. And he provided some valuable insights into the luxury markets of Japan, China and India.
