To strengthen TFWA’s presence in China and improve our communication with the country’s duty free and travel retail professionals, the Association is opening official accounts on Weibo and WeChat, two leading Chinese social media platforms.
Weibo, a microblogging application similar to Twitter with well over 300 million monthly active users, will carry short, topical messages especially during TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in Singapore and the biennial TFWA China’s Century Conference. Our WeChat strategy, much like our approach to LinkedIn, will major on sharing longer-form articles and press releases with industry players in China. Owned by Tencent, the WeChat social network claimed 980 million monthly active users last year with over 38 billion messages sent daily.
