Bye Bye Plastic Bags

Isabel Wijsen is a 17 year old Dutch-Indonesian activist currently a senior at Green School, Bali. She is the founder of Bye Bye Plastic Bags, which she co-founded in 2013, then aged 10, with her older sister Melati, then 12.

On June 23 2019, the official ban of plastic bags, straws and styrofoam was enforced by the Balinese government, in large part thanks to Bye Bye Plastic Bags’ campaigning for the past six years. This campaign of “saying to no plastic bags” ultimately led to Bali becoming the first Indonesian province to make the ban.

Bye Bye Plastic Bags is now a youth driven NGO with over fifty team members across more than 40 countries.
