After a successful post-pandemic return last year, the industry’s premier gathering, TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, is gearing up for up for a vibrant 2022 edition. Travel restrictions inevitably limited the scale of last year’s event, with many unable to make the journey to Europe from Asia Pacific and elsewhere, but over 3,000 duty free and travel retail professionals still enjoyed reconnecting with colleagues and doing business face to face again. A growing list of major brands has already booked stand space in Cannes this year, pointing to a bigger show of almost pre-Covid proportions.
Beauty houses Coty, Estée Lauder, L’Oréal and Shiseido have already confirmed their participation, as have wine and spirit giants Bacardi Martini, Brown-Forman, William Grant and Pernod Ricard. Fashion-sector exhibitors will include Lacoste, Longchamp, Luxottica and Zegna, while Lindt, Mondelez, Nestlé and Storck will underpin a substantial confectionery presence. Davidoff, Imperial Brands and JTI have also added their support, ensuring strong tobacco representation. Exhibitor bookings are well ahead of 2021 and close to 80% of pre-Covid floorspace occupancy. And with travel restrictions easing in many parts of the world, the signs are positive for a busy summit on the Côte d’Azur.
This year’s event will retain some of the changes introduced in 2021, such as longer opening hours for the Exhibition from 9:00am to 6:30pm local time. The popular TFWA Lounge on the Carlton Beach will also open for delegates from 6:30pm to 9:00pm each evening. Health restrictions permitting, a full social programme is planned including the traditional opening cocktail that starts the Cannes week. The Conference is also expected to resume its pre-pandemic format with a series of business-relevant seminars and workshops.
