TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference
Ap
This year’s edition of the TFWA Asia Pacific Conference takes place during a uniquely challenging period for the regional and global duty free & travel retail industry. The outbreak of coronavirus has had a devastating effect on travel to and from China and has affected traffic and sales across Asia Pacific and beyond. The industry’s reputation for resilience is being tested once again.

Against this backdrop, the 2020 Conference will address the industry’s response to the crisis and its readiness for the rebound, courtesy of senior speakers from some of the retailers, brands and airports most impacted by the current situation. The Conference will also address what is arguably our industry’s greatest challenge: how to limit our negative impact on the environment and engage a generation of customers for whom sustainability is a prime concern. And as always, conference attendees can put their questions and comments to our speakers via the TFWA App.

This year sees the introduction of a new format for the Conference, which will be held over the morning of Monday May 11 from 9:00 to 13:00, followed by a networking lunch. During the afternoon, delegates are warmly invited to take part in the first TFWA i.lab networking session, designed to give brands, retailers, airports and other stakeholders the opportunity to meet some of the companies that are helping shape the future of our industry by engaging travellers in new and innovative ways. Sponsored by Facebook, the session will combine informal meetings with TFWA’s structured ONE2ONE meeting service, and refreshments will be provided.

The TFWA Asia Pacific Conference will, we trust, provide a necessary forum for exchange and debate at a time of flux for our industry.

TFWA Asia Pacific Conference

Plenary session 2
Monday 11 May
11:20 - 13:00
Main Ballroom, Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Level 5

After coffee the discussion will turn to one of the major challenges of our time: ensuring a sustainable future for our industry and our environment. The session will present highlights of a major study commissioned by TFWA to explore current best practice in sustainability in travel retail, along with insights into how environmental concerns are shaping customer preferences and behaviour.

The session will also hear from speakers that have made a real difference to the world around them: Reese Fernandez-Ruiz, the founder of Filipino social enterprise Rags2Riches, and Melati and Isabel Wijsen, the creators of Bye Bye Plastic Bags in Bali. All have achieved global renown for their efforts to bring about genuine change through targeted, local initiatives with wide potential. All can offer inspiration for us in duty free & travel retail.

The session will be moderated by TFWA Conference Manager Michele Miranda.
