A proven driver of footfall and spend in travel retail, the confectionery & fine food category has long been a staple of the retail offer across all travel environments. Now more than ever, the sector has a key role to play as international travellers return in significant numbers. It meets a number of key traveller needs - gifting, self-treating, convenience and personalization, to name but a few – and also helps retailers generate the theatre and experiences that travellers increasingly demand.

But how will the confectionery & fine food sector meet the challenges that lie ahead? Supply chains are being tested, pricing is under pressure, and concerns over sustainability are driving customer preferences.

To explore these and other topics, TFWA is staging a 90-minute webinar on Confectionery in Travel Retail on December 13 at 10h30 CET. And although the confectionery sector will remain at the heart of the discussions, the sessions will address the market in its entirety, including food, sweets and also health supplements that are an important part of the product mix in some regions.

Confectionery in Travel Retail

Tuesday December 13, 10:30am – 12pm CET

The world of confectionery has undergone its fair share of change over the past few years. Demand underwent a dramatic shift in favor of e-commerce during the pandemic. Today, the global economy is in a state of flux and brands and retailers are learning to adapt and operate under a new paradigm.

The webinar will focus on the latest customer data and trends in the domestic market and explore how they will play out in duty free & travel retail. Among the topics that will be discussed are changes to customer behaviour as we emerge from the pandemic and enter a period of economic uncertainty; new trends in snacking, premium confectionery and other sectors; perspectives on price points and product assortments. We will hear how brands are pivoting to keep up with these new consumer values, while negotiating the challenges of doing business post-Covid.

This session will hear from Dr Peter Mohn, Founder and CEO, m1nd-set; Beatriz de Otto Méndez, Head of Customer Marketing World Travel Retail, Mondelēz International; Alexandra Bevernage, Travel Retail and Business Development Director, Neuhaus; and Fabrizio Canal, Founder and CEO of Italian fine food specialist Food Accademia.

The Confectionery in Travel Retail webinar will be moderated by TFWA Conference Director Michele Miranda and DFNI-Frontier Editor Kapila Ireland.
